Education and Training

Once Mr Burge’s plastic surgery training was completed in New Zealand, he spent two years training in craniomaxillofacial surgery. He spent another year at Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, working in paediatric craniofacial surgery and additional time in Cochin, Southern India, serving as a surgeon and treating patients with challenging cancers of the head and neck. He also spent six months at The New Zealand Institute of Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery where he served a cosmetic surgical fellowship.

Pro Bono Work

Mr Burge is a member of Interplast Australia and New Zealand, Operation Rainbow and Operation Smile. He commits time to volunteer work in cleft and craniofacial surgery in the Asia Pacific region every year. He has also worked with The Good Friday Appeal for the Royal Children’s Hospital, where his most recent surgery was to operate on twins suffering from a rare condition known as Saethre Chotzen or premature fusion of the skull bones.

When he is not in the operating room, Mr Burge enjoys hanging out with his wife and unruly daughters, guitar, long-distance running and yoga.

Mr Burge currently serves at The Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne as the section chief of Craniofacial Surgery. Performing paediatric cleft, craniofacial and plastic surgery, he also trains other surgeons in the clinical management of the most complex craniofacial cases.
